The North Cascades Highway; Cascade Loop

Where & How: From Burlington located some 65 miles north of Seattle you will head east on Highway 20 through Sedro Willy before heading over the North Cascade Pass. At Twisp, take Highway 153 south to Pateros; take U.S. 97 south to Wenatchee; head west on U.S. 2 to Everett; take Interstate 5 south to Seattle.

The northernmost route across the Cascade Mountain Range in Washington State, The SR-20 is commonly referred to as the North Cascades Highway. This nationally recognized Scenic Byway offers travelers a vast array of beautiful vistas and is part of the popular Washington Drive referred to as the Cascade Loop. The Cascade Loop is a 400-mile long scenic driving tour through the Cascade Mountains and the Columbia River and Methow Valley places at the very top in must do weekend long scenic drives in Washington State.

Why the Cascade Loop: The North Cascades Highway, as this section of Highway 20 is known, is a gorgeous high road through the Cascade Range. East of the mountains, visit the historically kept town of Winthrop WA, the ever scenic recreational spot of Lake Chelan and through orchards and wineries of Wenatchee. Then take time to stop in Leavenworth, a fun Bavarian-themed town 100 miles east of Seattle, before recrossing the Cascade Mountains via Stevens Pass, Highway 2, and heading back west through the antique capitol of Snohomish and on to Everett located on the shores of Puget Sound.
